Tutorials

I am available for tutorials before and after school. Students must let me know that they will be attending tutorials so that I will be in the classroom. School Wide Tutorials are also available. Extended Day is every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 2:45 until 4:45 p.m. DHS also has Open Doors, Lighted Windows every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. School tutorials take place in the library and an English teacher will be there at all times for student questions.

Although the English department has worked diligently to choose stories that complement our chronological units and meet the rigor of the course, parents may occasionally disagree with our choices. Should parents object to any of the department’s chosen selections, they must offer an alternative selection for approval in advance.

Homework Policy:

This year, students will have homework. Typically, class time will be allotted to begin any assignment. You are encouraged to take advantage of this time when it is given. The work might be finished in class, but if not, it will need to be completed that evening. However, there will be times when you are called upon to read a section of the book in preparation for the next day’s activity, or to begin an assignment at home. When this occurs, grades may be taken the next to ascertain that the work has been done. If the assignments are not done, the students ability to participate in class will be delayed which will only cause more homework.

MAKE-UP WORK FROM ABSENCES

It is the responsibility of the student to check with the teacher, outside of class (before or after school), for assignments missed due to absences. Students have 1 day for each day absent to turn in the work missed and 3 days to make up any test or quiz missed.

LATE WORK

Work accepted one day late will be subject to a 30 point loss. Students have until the end of the current progress report period to turn in assignment for 30 points off. After this time period, the assignment will no longer be accepted. If a student wants to complete an assignment in the allotted time period, they must attend one of the available tutorial options. If a student does not take the opportunity to complete a major test/project, they must write an explanation as to why they chose not to complete the assignment and get it signed by their parents.

Textbook

There are multiple ways for the students to access the materials necessary for the course. These include a textbook, internet access, an Interactive Reader, and a disk to load to a home computer.

Each student will be assigned a code to log on to thinkcentral.com where they can access all materials for English III (including a copy of each story that will be read during the semester). Please be patient with us as we learn to utilize our new resources.
