In 1966, the Texas Association of Vocational Adjustment Coordinators was established as the professional organization for educators concerned with the vocational education of the disabled student. From the time of its inception until 1976, TAVAC members attended a summer conference with the Texas Rehabilitation Association. In 1976, the San Antonio VACs, with the assistance of ESC Region XX, sponsored a conference focused specifically on the needs of VAC's. Since then, the conference has become an annual event, organized by the TAVAC State Board with assistance from local TAVAC affiliates.

In 1979, the TAVAC scholarship program was initiated to assist VAC students with the costs of continuing their vocational training. Increased productivity of fund raising activities and donations from local affiliates make it possible for more scholarships to be awarded each year.
