In the 2nd 9 week I now have a better idea what kind of reader your child is. We took a STAR test to see where he/she started the year and took another STAR test to see what improvements were made over the last 9 weeks. We'll be able to identify if students' levels went up, down, or stayed the same since the beginning of the year. Ideally, students should improve with each STAR test we take. Our goal is to get students reading on grade level and above. Students already reading above grade level should expect to see at least a year's growth. This 9 weeks we'll continue to work on inferences, main idea, author's purpose, characterization and critical thinking. It is a major step up from 1st grade and now we know how to think about thinking! Setting up our weekly rountine helps students focus on the skills and tasks for the week. |
