AP Calculus AB
Course: AP Calculus AB
Primary Text: Finney, Demana, Waits, and Kennedy. Calculus Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic. 3rd ed. Boston, MA: Prentice Hall, 2007
Approaches:
• Numerical analysis
• Graphical analysis
• Algebraic analysis
• Verbal/written methods of representing problems and solutions
• We will use the calculator in a variety of ways including:
Ø Conduct explorations.
Ø Graph functions within arbitrary windows.
Ø Solve equations numerically.
Ø Analyze and interpret results.
Ø Justify and explain results of graphs and equations.

Assessment:
• Tests: Each nine weeks students will have 3-4 tests which count 60% of the nine weeks
average. Each test is comprised of a multiple choice section and a free response section. The
free response section of each test ask students to answer questions similar to those posed on the AP Exam, which require students to explain and justify their responses using correct
methods and vocabulary.
• Quiz grades: There are 5-6 quizzes per nine weeks plus various other class assignments.
Quiz grades are 30% of the nine weeks average.
• Daily grades: Homework will be assigned nightly. It will be checked for accuracy and
completion several times during a unit. Homework counts as 10% of the nine weeks average.
• Semester exams: Semester exams are cumulative and counts 20% of the semester average.
• Projects: There is a major project each semester which counts as a test grade. Minor projects usually count as a quiz grades.
Classroom Policies
 Must show work to receive credit for any problems (this means for Homework, Quizzes, and Tests).
 All work must be done in pencil – No Pen!
 All angles should be in radians unless problem states otherwise.
 All answers must contain unit measure to receive credit for the answers unless problem does not have units of measure.
 You are upper classmen and women so I should not have to tell you how to behave.
